My 90s Glamour Shot with Mom

If you’re a child of the 80s or 90s, then chances are you’ve sat in a mall, had piles of makeup applied, your hair sprayed to unnatural heights and then posed with a sequin jacket. That pretty much sums up my 90s glamour shot with mom.

My mom and I had these photos taken in 1993 and even though they’re clearly dated (hello sailor collars), we both love them because we remember the day together.

We laughed, she felt pretty, I felt special and then with our overly-rouged cheeks pressed together, we posed for a photo that we still love more than two decades later.

I’ve got something up my sleeve for you and you should check it out by clicking here.

In the meantime, enjoy this flashback to mall bangs.

Cheers!

Leslie

PS: Mom, you’re so gorgeous.  Thank you for taking the photo with me in the first place and taking the photo of it for this. I love you.

Miss A is one of the most radiant pregnant mamas. She’s a trainer, so it’s not a surprise that she stayed super fit. In fact, we had to push her belly to its fullest even though she was pregnant with TWINS! Yup, that tiny belly is 30 weeks along with twins and this isn’t her first pregnancy. Don’t we all wish we could be so radiant?

I wanted something that celebrates her unique and vibrant personality. She brought in some fantastic wardrobe options, and of course I had to photograph her on the bed set, inspired by Christina Aguilera’s pregnancy photos.

Makeup: Makeup by Adeana
Hair: God-given gorgeousness

“If you’re going to San Francisco… be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.”

How to create a boho chic boudoir photoshoot.

Boho chic is all about a look that is natural and ethereal. It’s about showcasing a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. They way you might spend a Saturday morning with your lover.

Styling ideas for creating a boho chic boudoir photoshoot:

  1. Incorporate textures… delicate lace, fuzzy blankets, soft natural fabrics
  2. Keep your hair un-fussy. I love some big hair, but this is time for “I woke up like this” waves and a flower tucked behind your ear.
  3. Emphasize those sleepy eyes with long lustrous lashes, but skip the lower liner
  4. Pillows, lots of pillows, and scarfs and blankets create the cozy boho nook.
  5. Light should be bright and natural

How to Wear a Man’s Button-Down Shirt for Boudoir

Well, you don’t.  We’ve all seen the movies where the adorable girl wakes up, pulls on her man’s button-down shirt and looks even more adorable as she sips her coffee on the sofa while flirting adorably with him. So you’re thinking why not wear my man’s button-down shirt for boudoir.

Chances are, you aren’t the same exact size as your husband and I’m 99% sure you’ve got more curves. Maybe you’re curvy and he’s that guy who can eat an entire pizza in one sitting and never gain an ounce.  Maybe he’s taller and broader than you. Either way, his shirt is unlikely to be flattering.

Keep reading for how to get the looklavish, boudoir,

How to wear his shirt without looking like him:

  1. Buy a man’s shirt in your size. It will look like you raided his closet, but it won’t dwarf you.  If you’re petite, look at the juniors section. Miss K is wearing a junior’s large white shirt that I picked up on sale at Macy’s.
  2. Bring your own button down shirt. It will nip in at the waist to highlight your hourglass figure, but still give the same look.
  3. Pose so that you’re barely wearing the shirt. Do NOT button it up all the way.

Styling Tips:

  1. Add a wrap belt to show off your waist
  2. Make sure that it as been ironed or steamed but not starched
  3. Pick a color that suits your skin tone. Pale and more sheer materials look great for back-lighting and dark colors have an edge.
  4. Pair it with super-feminine skivvies for contrast.

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  1. Don’t bring a shirt he is extremely attached to. You don’t want stray makeup on his favorite Hugo Boss shirt.
  2. If you want to keep this a secret, bring your own shirt. The man who never pays attention will probably suddenly be offering to take clothes to the cleaner’s.
  3. Creases from the wrapping. Get it steamed or toss it in the dryer with a damp rag before you come to your shoot.
