Valentine's Day lingerie from stores other than Victoria's Secret

We all think of Victoria’s Secret for that little bit of briefly worn lingerie for Valentine’s Day. But there are so many options out there for you.

As a boudoir photographer who helps women of all shapes, sizes and styles dress in a way that makes them feel sexy, I need to know where to send my clients.

These are my favorite places to shop for….

Hanky Panky - recently had a less-than-stellar customer service experience, so buy their stuff from Nordstrom, instead.

Hips & Curves
Playful Promises

Ann Summers (pick up a bedroom toy while you’re there)
Honey Birdette

La Perla
Agent Provocateur

LAST-MINUTE (yes you read that right. it takes some digging, but there are cute pieces.

What are your favorite places to shop for lingerie? I’m always on the lookout for new designers!

5 "Outfits" in one hour - A simple, but sexy shoot with Lavish Albuquerque and Ms. J.

So many of my clients tell me they have no idea what to wear. This is from a recent shoot with J. After a dozen or more shoots together, we always wonder if we can get something unique. Well, we did. But here’s the coolest thing, we used practically nothing for this and got a huge variety of looks in a one-hour photoshoot.

Outfit #1: White sheets and a lot of skin

Outfit #2: nothing but skin

Outfit #3: a body necklace we have in studio

Outfit #4: a cute little bodysuit you can get pretty much anywhere

Outfit #5: a sexy bikini that she brought

I occasionally browse Amazon because prime means that even procrastinators like me can get last minute lingerie in time for their photoshoot. These items aren’t the finest quality like Agent Provocateur or Honey Birdette, but they’ll photograph beautifully in a pinch. Please note that the default color on the list is not necessarily what I recommend. When in doubt, black or red. Never white stockings. Ever.

Photoshoot Wardrobe Advice from Lavish Boudoir™

Here are our best tips for boudoir outfit ideas!

TIP #1: Take care of your girls.

Get a bra that fits well. Strap it on, then bed forward so your breasts rest fully in the cups. The cups should not gape. Now stand up, your boobs should not be spilling over. Last step, take off the straps and dance around a bit. The band should be fitted enough to fully support your breasts like a strapless bra.

Our favorite store for bras for all sizes:

TIP #2: Throw that free g-string in the trash.

It is doing you no favors. Find a complementary (not complimentary) pair of undies. For super fit or slightly flat bums... go for a thong to enhance the shape. Rounder bums look bootylicious in a pair of cheekies. Bums that need a bit more coverage and the illusion of lift, look best in traditional bikini style with wide sides.

Our favorite place for undies in a variety of styles:

TIP #3: Embrace shapewear that embraces you.

We all want an hourglass, whether we're 110 or 210 lbs, 25 or 65 years old. Shapewear used to mean nude colored granny panties, girdle and bra. Not anymore... they come with lace panels, sexy materials and even cute prints like leopard. Slips and corselettes (not corsets) are best for those who want a bit more control over hips and waist. You can even get some that go under your regular bra for a truly custom fit. Teddies show off toned legs, but trim the waistline. If you have a tiny waist but feel like your bottom half is a bit generous, try a skirt.

Our favorite place for flattering pieces that make any woman feel like a sex kitten:

Don't buy your stockings at the mall. They're overpriced if you aren't looking for something to wear multiple times.

My favorite place to buy affordable stockings and tights in sooo many cute designs:

I hope that your boudoir session planning is going well. Whether you decide to book with us or not, we want you to have the BEST experience possible, because we truly believe in the transformative power of boudoir.

Recently a client wrote to me, "This was a serious milestone for me, and I want everyone to have the same confidence/ego boost that I experienced. I initially booked as just a fun gift for my husband, and it evolved into so much more. Even at my best fitness level, I've suffered a poor body image for various reasons, and even though it's a drag to have waited until 46 years of age to start gaining real confidence, it's better late than never!"

Happy shopping!

If you'd like to schedule a complimentary consultation, I'd be happy to give you more specific advice.

What will you wear for your boudoir photo shoot?

We know it can be completely overwhelming to select lingerie for your photo shoot.  You want to look hot and feel like a million bucks.  Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of local options in Albuquerque or Valdosta.  We LOVE shopping online for lingerie for the following reasons:

  • Variety of styles and sizes
  • you can try it on in the privacy of your own home
  • most stores offer free shipping and free returns
  • many stores have online reviews, so it's like shopping with 100s of BFFs

I have a list of favorite stores that I send out to my clients when they book,  but I wanted to do something for every woman who is considering a shoot with me or anyone else.

I will be updating this Pinterest page monthly (around the 1st) with my favorite pieces from around the internet.  I'll be weeding out the ones that are no longer in stock.  Don't you HATE it when you click a link in Pinterest and it doesn't actually go to the shopping info?  Ugh... I'm still searching for a lbb that I saw on there.

So go on and follow my board for sexy ideas to suit all sizes and styles.
