Beauty Tip - Eat for Your Skin

Beauty comes from within. You are what you eat.

Of course these sayings have been appropriated to refer to my topic, but what you feed your body and your skin makes all the difference in the world.

Here are my favorite foods for your skin and why:

Somewhere along the line we got convinced that fat is bad.  Yes that gristle stuff you cut off of a steak is terrible, but omega-3 fatty acids are essential for glowing skin.  Watch the serving sizes and you'll have lush hair, soft skin and maintain that slender waistline.

Tomatoes are just one example of a food high in antioxidants.  The more colorful the food and the more delicious the smell, the more nutrients it will have.  The lycopene in tomatoes has also been shown to beef up your skin's defense against harmful sun rays.  Buy the ones with the least amount of pesticides for the best results (and taste).

Food high in water content is super nutritious.  On my recent trip to Greece, dessert wasn't a pile of refined sugars and wheat, it was a heaping plate of watermelon.  Sooo yummy.

Eat up!

Miss A - Boudoir - Sacramento, California

AP-lavish-boudoir-2011-California-131.jpg

I LOVE working with clients who are referred by former clients (or current in this case).  Miss K, who is one of my repeat customers, sent Miss A.  We did her shoot in Sacramento while I was in town.  She elected to do her own makeup, which I'm usually very nervous about.  This girl didn't even need makeup.  Who has skin that luminous without makeup or retouching???  A was so much fun to shoot.  She's got all the right curves and knew how to rock them.  It was such an honor to shoot another military spouse.  She's been with her husband since they were just teens and she is clearly wild about him.  Miss A, thank  you for trusting me to create these pictures for you and your man. Favorite Things for a Lavish Life

Cheese.... it's amazing.  There are so many varieties, flavors, colors, smells... my mouth is watering just typing about them.  Cheese gets a bad rap because it isn't the healthiest food option, but just like any favorite indulgence... there is always room for a wedge or two.  I get my cheese knowledge from a long-term client of mine who writes a blog called Cheese N' Sweets on all sorts of interesting trivia to do with cheese.  Check it out and learn a bit.

Beauty Tip - Faux Lashes (Mild to Wild)

moulin-rouge-eyelashes_25243_1.png

I love false lashes.  In fact, I now insist that women wear them for their shoots.  Why?  They're dramatic, they're sexy and they're lots of fun. For a natural wide-eyed look, I love Laura Mercier's Center Faux Lashes.  I wore them on my wedding day!

For a wild and artistic look, try something like these by Makeup Forever.

Step 1:  Before gluing, take each lash row and wiggle it a little bit.  This will help it conform to your lash line.

Step 2: To apply lashes, use a clear waterproof adhesive.  I like Duo brand that's available at drugstores. Use a toothpick to apply a thin line of adhesive to the base of the false lashes.

Step 3: Let it rest for a few seconds to get a bit more tacky

Step 4: Line them up with your own lashes.  Make sure they're not stabbing you in the eyelid when you blink

Step 5: Use a dark liner to go over the lash line and disguise the base of the lashes.

Flutter and flirt away!
