J's Bridal Boudoir Shoot
Dear J,
You were one of the most beautiful brides I've photographed. Women like you give me the urge to come out of wedding photography retirement. We met over the phone since you were coming all the way from Midland, Texas. We chatted between flights because we needed to get you booked asap. I remember hanging up and thinking that this was going to be so much fun. Your enthusiasm was obvious, and that's the best kind of photoshoot. We wanted to surprise your groom with a gift that he'd love. We created a photoshoot to be bright and airy. To show off your smile. I knew that we could create photos that showed him just how sexy and confident you are.
Some women worry about fading their tan lines before a boudoir photoshoot, but I think it adds to the allure. What do you think?
I'm so glad you wore your wedding shoes that had so much bling on top and the bottom had the prettiest teal bottoms for your "something blue." This is one of my favorite photos.
Your engagement ring is so beautiful. I'm sure that every time you look at it, you fall in love with B all over again.
Thank you J for trusting me with capturing you as a beautiful bride-to-be. I can't wait to have you and B back next year to celebrate your anniversary.
Sincerely,
Leslie

Miss J | Mom's Day Off
J, You won me over with wine, chocolate and bedroom toys. Wait, that sounds so wrong. Ha! But really, when I went to a friend of a friend's house for your Pure Romance party, I honestly wasn't all that enthusiastic. I usually end up spending money on stuff I don't need. But you were so charming from the beginning with scooting your adorable 1 year old out the door with his daddy, your somewhat obsessive cat, enormous dogs and welcoming smile that crinkles your eyes.
Here's the thing, and I haven't told you this before, but I totally misread you on first impression. I thought you were shy, reserved and far from the confident, sensual woman you really are. I knew you were a whole different woman, when you started acting out a particularly funny moment one might encounter in bed. THAT was a woman I wanted to photograph.
So I sent you a little voucher to show you what I do, and I was ecstatic when you called. I was in Florida visiting family and my kid had barfed on me that morning (twice). So to say it was the highlight of my day would be the understatement of the year.
We did your consults and tried on the new teddy I had from Yandy.com and a super sexy shaper skirt that seemed like it was made for you. We found you a pretty lacy little bra from Claudette, because as you pointed out, you hadn't really lingerie shopped since before your baby. Your curves made your lingerie look beautiful.
You mentioned you had done a boudoir shoot before, and I got so nervous. It's always a bit intimidating to photograph someone who has expectations in place. But I think we nailed it. How about you?
Thank you to you and your wonderful-adoring-husband-of-the-year (and good luck to his dreams of being a test pilot... so cool).

When all you need is a sheet... or 3
Sometimes I like to do personal shoots that challenge me. This time, I wanted to see if I could come up with enough fabulous photos to fill my top collection without shooting one bit of lingerie. Guess what... it worked! I called up a friend and past client to ask if she was game. Mind you, I can be a bit bossy with my friends. She agreed and a date was set with a sitter to watch our kiddos and the fabulous makeup artist, Edgar. It was a trial for him, too. More on that later. I also wanted to incorporate what I've been learning from Denise Birdsong's workshop, Stripped Down. That meant getting photos with emotions and a message. Pretty photos are easy (especially when your subject is so cute), but capturing something that gives the viewer a reaction is a challenge.
We did three sets with different themes. Here are just a few of my favorites
Thank you B, for being such a good sport and really committing to the posing, the expressions and wearing little more than a sheet.

Miss L - Lavish Boudoir
A while back, I donated a session to a silent auction for Redirect Counseling. It came down to two potential clients in a bidding war. Miss L came out victorious. She called me to set up the session and told me that she was a little bit nervous. She JUST had a baby and was a busy working mom. In other words, she's my ideal client. There's nothing better to me than spoiling a busy mom who barely gets time for herself. She brought in wardrobe options that ranged from mild to wild... and I wasn't about to let her chicken out of wearing the fabulous vinyl piece you see below. Because, seriously, that's hot. Her smile is as gorgeous as her mile-long legs. I also got to meet her husband who quickly made up his mind that he wanted his favorite photo in a metal print for his wall. It's so much fun to meet an enthusiastic husband. I hope you both love your photos forever and I can't wait to deliver your album.
